Rural Fire Subscription
By request from the City of Milan Mayor and the Board of Aldermen, the Milan Fire Department has reinstituted the Milan Fire Department Rural Fire Service Program. The Rural Fire Service Program is offered to residents who live outside (by up to 3.5 miles) the city limits of Milan.
Currently, if you live outside the city limits of the City of Milan and do not have a rural fire service contract with Milan Fire Department, then you are covered by the Gibson County Fire Department, which is primarily composed of volunteers. The Milan Fire Department is a full-time paid department and is staffed 24/7.
If you opt-in to the Milan Fire Department Rural Fire Service Program and have a fire on your property, the Milan Fire Department will immediately respond along with the Gibson County Fire Department.
The cost of the Rural Fire Service Program is $100 per year for residential occupancies and $200 per year for commercial and/or assembly occupancies. Payments must be submitted with a signed contract, and in the event that you do have a fire, the City of Milan will bill the property owner $1000 per incident for residential and/or $1500 for commercial/assembly occupancy.
You are advised to check with your homeowner’s insurance company concerning this service. Depending on your insurance carrier, some premium savings may be available if you take advantage of the Milan Fire Department Rural Fire Service Program.
You are required to renew this service each year.
Contract forms may be picked up at the Milan City Hall, located at 1061 S Main St, Milan, TN 38358. Contract forms will only be mailed to out-of-state property owners. You can also access a contract form as a PDF to download/print by clicking the button below.

Smoke Alarms
The Milan Fire Department was fortunate to receive a FEMA Fire Prevention and Safety grant for the purchase and distribution of smoke alarms in the community. We will provide you with FREE smoke alarms and even install them for you upon request.
Each year, more than 3,000 people die in home fires in the United States. Most are in homes without a working smoke alarm. A properly installed working smoke alarm lowers your chances of dying in a fire - it’s like having someone on-duty in your home, 24 hours a day, to provide early warning of a fire.
Smoke alarms should be installed both inside and outside of sleeping areas and on every level of your home, including basements. Learn more about the importance of smoke alarms in the fire safety of your home.
Our goal is to ensure that every home has a working smoke alarm. Please contact the Milan Fire Department at (731) 686-3996 to request your free smoke alarms and schedule a time for installation.
